In a study published today the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) says that road building and its associated development simply generates more traffic, which in turn creates pressure for more road building. The study into the economic benefits of road building found that any respite from congestion provided by a new or widened road is only temporary.
The report concludes that the Government’s road-building programme will achieve nothing but increased demand for roads.
